Phenolic resins & moulding compounds
The classic role: hardener for novolac resins used in bakelite, laminates, abrasive wheels, brake linings and shell-moulding sand for foundries.
Also known as urotropine, hexamethylenetetramine or methenamine — a single white crystalline powder that hardens phenolic resins, bonds tyre cord, inhibits acid corrosion and burns clean in a fuel tablet. Sterilco keeps it in stock, documented and ready to move.
Hexamine is a heterocyclic cage built from four nitrogen atoms bridged by six methylene groups — an unusually symmetrical structure produced by reacting formaldehyde with ammonia in water. That symmetry is why it behaves so predictably: it dissolves readily, it sublimes rather than melts, and under heat or mild acid it releases formaldehyde in a controlled way.
Industry uses that last property constantly. Wherever a process needs formaldehyde on demand — crosslinking a novolac resin, curing a shell mould, building wet-strength into paper — hexamine delivers it as a stable, easily handled solid instead of a hazardous gas.
From foundry floors to pharmaceutical blending rooms, hexamine turns up wherever a controlled formaldehyde source, a hardener or a corrosion inhibitor is required.

Vulcanisation accelerator and, paired with resorcinol and silica, the methylene donor in RFL bonding systems that hold steel cord to rubber.
Compressed hexamine burns smokelessly with no liquid residue — the standard fuel for camping stoves, field rations and model engines.
Added to hydrochloric and sulphuric pickling baths, it forms a protective film that slows acid attack on the base metal while the scale still dissolves.
The active precursor behind methenamine hippurate and mandelate, long used to manage recurrent urinary tract infections, and an ingredient in antiperspirant formulations.
A formaldehyde donor in wet-strength and shrink-resist finishes, and a crosslinker in curing systems for industrial coatings.
Sterilco is a chemical wholesale business in Warsaw. We do not resell a name — we hold the material, the documentation and the transport classification for it.
Stabilised hexamine for storage-critical applications, unstabilised where additives are unwelcome. Powder or granules.
Certificate of Analysis per batch, current Safety Data Sheet, technical specification and the REACH registration number — supplied before dispatch.
25 kg bags on shrink-wrapped pallets, 500 and 1000 kg big bags, or fibre drums. We match packaging to your intake, not ours.
Hexamine is a UN 1328 Class 4.1 flammable solid. Every consignment is labelled, documented and carried accordingly.
Whether you are trialling a new resin formulation with 100 kg or feeding a continuous line with 24 tonnes a month, the packaging is chosen around your handling equipment.
Multi-layer paper or PE sacks, palletised and shrink-wrapped. 1000 kg per Euro pallet.
FIBC with a discharge spout and inner liner for silo and hopper feeding.
Fibre or plastic drums for smaller regulated volumes; ISO containers for sea freight.
Yes. Urotropine, hexamine, hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA), methenamine, formin and aminoform are all trade or historic names for the same compound: C₆H₁₂N₄, CAS 100-97-0. Purchasing documents in Central Europe usually say urotropina; technical literature in English says hexamine.
Unstabilised hexamine is the pure compound and is the default for resin and rubber chemistry, where any additive would interfere. Stabilised grades carry a small amount of a stabilising agent that suppresses caking and slow decomposition during long storage or humid transport — useful for fuel tablets and for buyers holding stock for months. Tell us the end use and we will recommend the grade.
A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis, the current Safety Data Sheet in the language of the receiving country, the technical specification, and transport paperwork prepared to ADR for UN 1328. The REACH registration number is stated on the SDS.
Hexamine is a legitimate industrial raw material, but it is also a precursor listed under EU rules on explosives precursors. We supply business customers only, against a stated end use, and we are required to record and report suspicious transactions. Expect a short due-diligence step on a first order.
Cool, dry and well ventilated, in closed original packaging, away from heat, sparks, open flame and strong oxidising agents. It is a flammable solid (H228) and a skin sensitiser (H317), so gloves and dust control are appropriate. Shelf life in sealed packaging is typically 24 months.
You will have a price, a lead time and the current Safety Data Sheet back within one working day.
